Berry’s Creek Gourmet Cheese is in our opinion, Australia’s best artisan blue cheese producer, and the Riverine Blue Australia’s best blue cheese.

In 2007 Barry and his partner, Cheryl, two driven cheese-lovers, embarked on their vision to establish an artisan cheese company in South Gippsland Victoria.  Affectionately referred to as Australia’s ‘Master of Blue’ Barry, specialises in blue cheese production and together they have produced an extensive range of award-winning cheese. Accolades include The Australian Grand Dairy Awards, The  Melbourne Fine Food Awards, and The World Cheese Awards. With over 40 years of experience in cheese making, their skills and experience are well recognized in the cheese world and they are often invited to judge at international events.

Riverine Blue is just one of their varieties of blue that is produced at Berry’s Creek and was Australia’s first Buffalo Milk cheese.  The extremely high quality, rich buffalo milk is sourced from on a neighbouring farm, and the cheese is named in honour of the breed of buffalo – Riverine.

Riverine Blue has a beautiful buttery texture with the blue moulds evenly spreading from centre to rind. The perfectly balanced flavour is slightly sweet and fruity at first then develops into a gentle spice and slight lanolin flavour with notes of raw almond as it warms in your mouth. A sweet delicacy and subtle perfume upon warming to room temperate compliments the purity of this outstanding milk.

Great introduction to the world of blue cheese for the novices out there but complex enough for the blue cheese aficionado.

On a cheese board serve beside oatcakes and some crisp pear. Pairs well with Wheat beer, medium bodied shiraz, Wheat beer, Port, Botrytis Semillon.
